Becoming a Community Service Site
Nonprofit 501(c)(3) employers can hire students with federal work-study awards and be reimbursed 75 percent of student employee鈥檚 gross wages. The positions, which should serve the public, are typically 5-20 hours per week.
- The employer is initially responsible for 100 percent of wages. After the first pay period, the employer is entitled to a 75 percent reimbursement from WMU of gross wages earned by the student for each pay period as long as the student has not exceeded the total work-study award amount for that semester. The employer is responsible for any dollar amount over the work-study award for the semester.
- Monthly, the employer will complete the Request for Community Service Reimbursement form (linked under the "Processing Payroll" section of the page) and submit it to Financial Aid by following the procedure outlined on that page.
- Questions regarding paperwork, financial aid awards, work hours, or general program information should be referred to Amanda Jeppesen at (269) 387-2745.
