KALAMAZOO, Mich.鈥擶estern 麻豆传媒应用 University鈥檚 College of Engineering and Applied Sciences programs have again been accredited. The bachelor鈥檚 degree programs in aerospace engineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering, computer engineering, construction engineering, electrical engineering, industrial and entrepreneurial engineering, mechanical engineering and paper engineering have been accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. Additionally, WMU鈥檚 bachelor鈥檚 degree programs in engineering design technology, engineering management technology and manufacturing engineering technology have been accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET and Western鈥檚 bachelor鈥檚 degree program in computer science has been accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET. ABET is the quality assurance organization focused on college and university programs in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) disciplines.

ABET accreditation assures that programs meet standards to produce graduates ready to enter critical technical fields that are leading the way in innovation and emerging technologies and anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public.

"ABET accreditation is a key indicator of the quality of our programs at WMU," says Dr. Steve Butt, dean of Western鈥檚 College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. "It reflects our commitment to providing students with an education that aligns with global standards, equipping them with the skills and experiences that enhance their career prospects."

Sought worldwide, ABET鈥檚 voluntary peer-review process is highly respected because it adds critical value to academic programs in the technical disciplines, where quality, precision and safety are of the utmost importance.

Developed by technical professionals from ABET鈥檚 member societies, ABET criteria focus on what students experience and learn. ABET accreditation reviews look at program curricula, faculty, facilities and institutional support and are conducted by teams of highly skilled professionals from industry, academia and government, with expertise in the ABET disciplines.

ABET is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization with ISO 9001:2015 certification. It currently accredits 4,674 programs at 920 colleges and universities in 42 countries and areas as of Oct. 1, 2023.
