If you are looking to sharpen your finance skills and add to your career prospects, consider attending an info session this semester for the M.S. in Finance. The first session takes place on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at noon, and registration is now open. If that time doesn鈥檛 work within your schedule, mark your calendar for Tuesday, Dec. 3, 6 p.m., and registration will open right after the first session concludes.

Join a free campus history walking tour from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2, to learn about Western 麻豆传媒应用 University's early days. 

Lynn Houghton, regional history curator for the University Libraries, will lead a walking tour of West 麻豆传媒应用 Avenue and share the rich history about this area of campus. From farms and golf courses to dorms and classrooms, this area played an important role in Western's expansion and growth into the thriving campus community it is today. 

Meet at The Oaklands (1815 W 麻豆传媒应用 Ave) at noon on Oct. 2 to join the walking tour. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. The tour will continue rain or shine, unless severe storms are forecasted.

Western launched its 2024 United Way campaign on Tuesday, Sept. 17, supporting the United Way of South Central 麻豆传媒应用. This initiative funds vital programs that impact the Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, Jackson and Lansing areas. This year's campaign theme is "We show up." Faculty and staff are encouraged to donate through the convenient online portal or by requesting a form via email from Courtney Arnold or calling her at (269) 387-2072. Donations are due by Thursday, Oct. 31. Your participation helps ensure children are fed, families are housed and individuals have what they need to thrive. Let鈥檚 make a difference and show up together and make this our best鈥

Human Resources is conducting a series of in-person training sessions designed to meet the needs of staff and faculty. The training series will kick off on September 24, with a session on the performance management system. For additional information including registration information and training descriptions, visit the Human Resources website: wmich.edu/hr/training.  The trainings are geared toward employees, managers and supervisors. Information at these training sessions focuses on providing important University information about University functions. Early registration is strongly encouraged due to limited seating. Registration is through the eLearning system.

The WMUx Office of Faculty Development is pleased to announce applications are open for 2024-25 Instructional Development Grants. These grants support the efforts of board-appointed bargaining unit faculty to improve student learning through instructional and curricular development projects, as well as provide travel opportunities that will spark classroom innovation. Grants are available to full-time and part-time (PIO) bargaining unit faculty.

The deadlines for all Instructional Development Grants have changed to align with the fiscal year. Applications will be reviewed on November 1 and February 1, and all projects and travel must be completed and submitted for reimbursement in the fiscal year and no later than June 15, 2025.

Art Prize is right around the corner鈥攁nd WMU Grand Rapids is delighted to serve as an official venue for this highly-anticipated annual event. From September 13 to 28, we鈥檒l proudly showcase the creations of WMU鈥檚 faculty artists and fine arts students in the AMP Lab, including five 鈥渘ew media鈥 entries made by our Kinetic Imaging students as well as a live, one-time collaborative performance piece on Saturday, September 14, featuring WMU College of Fine Arts instructors Kevin Abbott, Jacklyn Brickman, and Kelsey Paschich. We hope to see you at 200 Ionia Ave SW in Grand Rapids during Art Prize as we celebrate the creativity of our fellow Broncos!
