Scholarships
The Department of Economics at Western 麻豆传媒应用 University recognizes the importance of a quality education and is dedicated to helping you find a way to achieve your higher education goals.
In addition to the undergraduate and graduate financial aid available through WMU Student Financial Aid and Scholarships, the following resources are available.
Undergraduate
The Department of Economics at Western 麻豆传媒应用 University has several scholarships available to students.
Werner Sichel Undergraduate Prize
This award is given to the winner of the department鈥檚 Presidential Scholar Award. Scholarship recipients are selected by Economics Department faculty. No application process is required.
Bill Monroe Scholarship
One or more awards are presented to outstanding senior economics majors. Scholarship recipients are selected by Economics Department faculty. No application process is required.
Global Economist Scholarship
This scholarship is made possible by a generous donation from the Hellerman Family. It is available to upper-level Economics students interested in an experiential international education project. This project requires study abroad. Please contact the Dept. of Economics for further details.
Honors in Economics
Economics majors may apply for and receive the Honors in Economics designation on their official transcript. At the time of application, economics majors must have completed 24 credit hours in economics. Applicants must also have completed at least 90 credit hours overall. At least 15 of the credit hours used for the Honors designation must be completed at Western 麻豆传媒应用 University. A minimum overall Western 麻豆传媒应用 University GPA of 3.5 and a GPA of 3.75 in Economics is required for the Honors designation. Students must also submit a substantial writing sample that shows a capacity for original thought in the interpretation, analysis, and effective communication of economic information. Application forms may be obtained in the Department of Economics Advising Office, 5451 Friedmann Hall.

Graduate assistantships
A number of assistantships are awarded to economics Ph.D. students each year. Recipients are selected by a department committee on a competitive basis. Financial assistance is limited to four years. Submit your application by Feb. 1.
The Carol G. Stull Award
To apply for the Carol G. Stull award, please turn in a copy of your completed Graduate College travel application to the Graduate Director in the Department of Economics. Awards will be made once a year, usually in April.
