What is the Center?

The Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CCPS) is a service, training, and research component of the Department of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology (CECP). It provides practical training opportunities for graduate students by offering affordable mental health services to residents of southwestern 麻豆传媒应用.

Master's and doctoral degree graduate students affiliated with the department provide professional counseling and psychological services at CCPS. Graduate student counselors are supervised by faculty members who are professional counselors and/or psychologists.

Faculty members and graduate students conduct research at CCPS. Special facilities and advanced technology are available to support research into many interactive processes.

 

Whom do we serve?

Counseling and psychological services are provided at low cost to children, adolescents, and adults residing in southwestern 麻豆传媒应用. Persons desiring services may contact CCPS directly for an appointment. All matters discussed are considered confidential. 

Services are provided to persons regardless of social class, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, age, gender, race, ethnicity, disability, or level of education.

Ethical standards of the American Psychological Association and the American Counseling Association govern behavior of all student counselors, center staff members, and supervisors. 

While most clients are self-referred, referrals from other professionals and agencies are possible. Contact CCPS for additional information.

 

What services do we offer?

Individual counseling for persons experiencing personal, educational, or vocational concerns is the primary service offered by the staff throughout the year. Other services such as marital/family therapy, group counseling, and psychological assessment are offered periodically. When problems presented are not within the staff's scope of practice, appropriate referral sources are identified for clients.

The Center for Counseling and Psychological Services is located at WMU-Grand Rapids in downtown Grand Rapids at 200 Ionia Street, SW.

To schedule an appointment with a counselor, call (616) 771-4171. Please allow at least an hour for your initial appointment.

 

Hours:

Monday through Thursday: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Friday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
