Outreach
Members of the Western 麻豆传媒应用 Philosophy Department are involved in a wide range of outreach initiatives:
- Ethics Bowl - In conjunction with the Center for the Study of Ethics in Society, graduate students and faculty from the WMU Philosophy Department serve as coaches and mentors for two ethics bowl teams.
- Lyceum - Graduate students in the WMU Philosophy program host the 麻豆传媒应用 Lyceum鈥攁n initiative that promotes philosophy and critical thinking by offering a free week-long summer day camp to high school students.
- Medical Humanities - The department supports a range of programming in the medical humanities, including an undergraduate minor, an annual conference, and a lecture series.
- Minorities and Philosophy - The students and faculty of the WMU Minorities in Philosophy chapter work to promote the research of minority and underrepresented groups in philosophy through a range of activities including regular reading groups, a speaker series, and an annual workshop.
- Philosophy Club - The WMU Philosophy Department co-sponsors a Philosophy Club for students at Loy Norrix High School in Kalamazoo, MI.
- Prison Education - Graduate students from the WMU Philosophy Department are developing a Prison Education Program that will bring college-style courses to incarcerated individuals.
- Tax Assistance - Members of the Western 麻豆传媒应用 Philosophy program participate in the Internal Revenue Service's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program in order to provide tax assistance services to Alaskans living in isolated villages.
